The question behind the question
Walk into a shop in Dubai and you’ll find TEREA in Russian, Japanese, Italian and Indonesian packaging, sitting side by side, at prices that vary by more than double. Nobody explains why. So people assume something odd is going on.
Usually there isn’t. What you’re looking at is a normal consequence of how a global product reaches a market that doesn’t have its own dedicated production run.
Here’s the whole thing, in plain terms.
Reason one: some flavours only exist in some markets
This is the biggest driver and the least understood. Each production market makes the flavours approved and demanded in the regions it supplies. So the menu genuinely differs by origin.
The Pearl and Wave family — Tidal, Twilight, Provence, Starling, Summer Wave — comes from Kazakhstan. The special editions like Golden, Emerald and Minago come from Indonesia. Japan doesn’t use the colour names at all — no Bronze, no Silver, just Rich Regular and Smooth Regular and so on.
So if your flavour isn’t available from an origin, that’s usually not a stock problem your seller can fix by ordering more. That flavour simply isn’t made for that market. Which means the only way to smoke it is to buy the origin that makes it.

AED 120 to AED 228 for what is, on the manufacturer’s own specification, the same stick. That’s not a rounding error — it’s nearly double.
The gap comes from three things: what it costs to produce in each market, local taxation on tobacco in that market, and how far the product has to travel to reach Dubai. Scarcity does the rest. An origin that arrives here a few times a year commands more than one that lands every month, regardless of what’s inside the pack.
For a daily smoker that difference is real money. A carton a week of Indonesian Bronze against Italian Bronze is a difference of over AED 5,000 a year. We’d rather you knew that than found out later. Reason three: people want a pack they recognise
This one gets dismissed as vanity and it shouldn’t be.
If you moved here from Europe and smoked TEREA for years, a Cyrillic pack doesn’t feel like the product you know — even when it is. That’s why Swiss packs at AED 159 have a steady audience despite offering no exclusive flavour. German, French and Italian on one box is something most people can partly read.
The same goes the other way. A lot of UAE buyers hesitate over Russian-language packs simply because they can’t parse the warning label, and end up on Indonesian stock which carries English elements at AED 120. Nothing about the tobacco changes. The confidence does.
Label language tells you which market a pack was produced for. That’s all it tells you.
Reason four: regulation changed what some markets can make
The clearest case is Europe. EU rules on characterising flavours in heated tobacco reshaped what European retail shelves are allowed to carry, which is why menthol and flavoured variants disappeared from shops there.
But production for export follows the destination market’s rules, not the EU’s. Our Italian stock is export spec — Italian-produced, made for markets outside the EU. That’s exactly why Italian menthols and capsules exist on a Dubai shelf when they don’t exist on a shelf in Milan.
It sounds like a contradiction until you know that, and it’s the single most common source of suspicion about Italian stock. Any seller should be able to tell you which spec they’re selling. If they can’t explain their own supply, that tells you something.

Why a shop carries several origins at once
From our side of the counter there’s a simpler reason, and it’s worth being open about: no single origin covers everyone.
If we stocked only Kazakhstan, we’d have no answer for the customer who wants a limited edition or an English-readable pack. Only Indonesia, and we’d have two capsules instead of six and softer menthol in a city where summer runs half the year. Only Japan, and almost nobody could afford a daily habit.
So we keep Kazakhstan and Indonesia permanently, because between them they cover most people. Everything else — Japan, Italy, Switzerland, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan — comes in drops and serves a narrower group very well.
That’s the honest commercial logic. It isn’t more complicated than that.
What origin does not tell you
Three things worth clearing up, because origin gets blamed for all of them.
It doesn’t tell you quality. The blend specification for a given flavour is built to one standard across production sites. There’s no premium leaf reserved for one country and no downgraded version routed to cheaper markets.
It doesn’t tell you authenticity. A cheap pack isn’t a fake and an expensive one isn’t automatically real — in fact Japan is the most counterfeited origin in Dubai precisely because the margin on a fake is highest. Check the pack, not the price: tight seal with clean corner folds, even-toned inner foil, a sharp batch code that isn’t repeated across the carton.
It doesn’t tell you freshness. That’s about the journey and the storage, not the factory. A pack that sat in a hot warehouse smokes dry whatever flag is on the box — which is why we favour origins that turn over fast.
What to actually do about it
Pick the flavour first. Then let origin decide price and availability. That order round the right way saves most people money and all of the confusion.
If you smoke menthol, Kazakh stock hits colder in our own side-by-side tasting. If you smoke capsules, Indonesian arrives in the best condition.
